As spring quickly approaches, we look forward to warmer weather, longer days, flowers blooming and more! While spring is a fantastic season to be outside and enjoy your surroundings, it's also the perfect time to tackle the cleanliness of your home. You may have heard of spring cleaning before and felt that since you clean all year-round, it doesn't apply to you, but spring cleaning is much more than that. It's a time to go through your home and get it functioning at its absolute best. Here are our top spring cleaning tips.

Declutter Your Space

Clutter can not only cause feelings of stress and anxiety in the home, it can also be a breeding ground for dust and other allergens to settle. Too much stuff in any given space can cause hazards in the home, so taking some time to declutter the space is highly recommended. Put some time on your schedule to go through your items and see what you can get rid of. Go through closets, basement areas and other spaces where items are piling up and get your home organized this spring.

Try Green Cleaners

Our environment is important...and so is your health! A lot of cleaning products have the potential to expose you to harmful chemicals, which can cause breathing and other respiratory problems. Instead, opt for greener products, made from more natural ingredients. These products are especially effective in high-traffic areas of the home, like the living room, kitchen and bathrooms.

Replace Air Filters

You may not even realize how dirty your air filters are until you finally get around to replacing them. Once you see the amount of dirt and grime that has been trapped in them, a look of disgust may cross your face as you realize that's what you've been breathing in! After all, there's only so much dirt and dust that filters can trap over time without eventually becoming ineffective. It's a good idea to get yourself on a schedule to replace your furnace and HVAC filters, so that you can improve the air quality in your home.

Other Helpful Spring Cleaning Tips

When it comes to spring cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness (and safety) of your home, other helpful tips to keep in mind include:

  • Making sure to clean windows, walls and ceilings

  • Wiping down kitchen and bathroom cabinets

  • Tackling the expired/old food in your fridge

  • Changing out your shower curtains

This spring, take some time for your home. After all, this is probably the space (besides work!) that you spend the most time in, so it's important that it's functioning properly. When you take a moment to focus on your space, you set yourself (and your family) up for a cleaner, fresher, healthier home.
